An inlaid walnut chess and backgammon box, handmade in Turkey

Two classic games in one object: this 9.5-inch (24 cm) inlaid walnut box is entirely handmade in Turkey. Closed, it shows a chessboard; open, it reveals a backgammon board (also called tavla or shesh besh).

On top, black pearl-effect squares alternate with white squares, framed by a wide inlaid border.

A backgammon board inside

Inside, the backgammon board is also inlaid, and the backgammon checkers and two dice are included. Just open the box to start a game.

Chess pieces sold separately

The box comes with the backgammon checkers and the two dice. The chess pieces are not included: you can order them separately, in a small size or a large size.

Painstaking mosaic inlay

Every side is covered in mosaic inlay with geometric and star patterns, a traditional artisan craft. A metal clasp keeps the box securely closed.
